It has been many years since Duke Orbal of Cuirnif last held the Grand Exposition of Marvels, and the scandal and rumors that plagued that event certainly are remembered by the locals. Still, the Duke is a man enthralled by wonders and prodigies and it was only a matter of time before he acquiesced to his desires. Magicians, inventors, and mountebanks gather in hopes of winning glory…and the prize of one thousand terces.

With a prize so great, competition is fierce. The magician Hazraadial has discovered that his entry, the Crystal of Ciz, has been stolen. He is desperate to recover it to avoid losing face, and his opportunity at wealth and greater recognition. It would be unseemly for him to openly admit the theft, so he must find agents whom he can trust (or bribe into silence) to recover his property.

Intrigue abounds! Corrupt merchants, demon-bound witches, and even the common folk may be holding secrets that will lead to the Crystal of Ciz. Finding the Crystal is one thing—surviving reclaiming it is wholly another.
