Root: The Homeland Expansion

Root: The Homeland Expansion is the next chapter in the series. The expansion offers three new factions: the Lilypad Diaspora, Twilight Council, and Knaves of the Deepwood. All three factions add unique gameplay challenges and push forward the dramatic, narrative-first asymmetry that makes Root so special.

The Lilypad Diaspora and Twilight Council factions work with all previous factions. The Knaves of the Deepwood is a new faction that uses the Vagabond's components—you'll play with three Vagabond meeples at once, along with new skunk meeples! Because the Knaves re-use the Vagabond's components, they cannot be played at the same time, but the Homeland Expansion also adds three new Vagabond meeples and character cards that can be used as individual Vagabonds or as part of the Knaves.

The expansion also introduces two new maps—the Marsh map and the Gorge map. The Marsh map allows you to expand your play area during setup based on your playgroup's desires, and the Gorge map is a tight, fascinating reinterpretation of the Autumn map that emphasizes chokepoints. All in all, this is the biggest Root expansion we've ever released!
